Waren became the administrative center of Waropen subdivision in 1955. It is still a primitive
outpost, not yet adequately equipped. It is situated on a riverbank which formerly was surrounded by
swamps and which used to get flooded from time to time. Now a good drainage system has been built so that
even in the event of sudden floods of the Waren river there is no danger of flooding. The area of the
Government establishments has also considerably been enlarged by clearing part of the bordering woods.
Some roads have been built in the locality.
